5 instances when Bundesliga clubs showed their Twitter game is strong

Social media is an excellent medium for football clubs to grow their reach and connect with their fans from all over the world.

Top European clubs like Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester United have fans across the globe, so they use social media platforms such as Twitter and Instagram to engage with their fans as much as possible.

In the past few years though, a new trend has emerged. Football clubs do not use their social media handles to simply post score updates or share behind the scenes content.

Instead, they have started posting interesting stuff, references from pop culture, as well as having banter with other clubs online.

Teams from the Bundesliga are renowned for having upped the ante in these terms, as their official handles have become much more than just normal portals.

Here are five such instances when Bundesliga clubs proved their Twitter game is strong:

#5 Dortmund’s hilarious take on crushes and dates

Sharing an extremely well-timed picture of Mahmoud Dahoud gushing over Omer Toprak, Borussia Dortmund managed to perfectly encapsulate how we’d react if our best buddy finally got his much-anticipated date with his crush.

Very, very cheeky indeed.

#4 Bayer Leverkusen’s heavy-hearted plea to Bayern Munich

Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen weren’t having the best of times in 2018. Despite this, their Twitter page admin somehow managed to pull off this banter with Bayern Munich and we couldn’t help but go all ROFL!

Leverkusen used a GIF of Leslie Knope to express their feelings, and send out a plea to Bayern, to win their game, so that the BayArena outfit wouldn’t fall further down the league table.

#3 Dortmund’s sly dig at RB Leipzig via the 10-year challenge

RB Leipzig were founded in 2009, and their quick rise to prominence, courtesy of their partnership with Redbull has infuriated various Bundesliga teams. Borussia Dortmund, therefore, decided to take a sly dig at Leipzig when the 10-year challenge was trending.

Hilariously though, Leipzig weren’t ones to sit back, and they conjured up an even funnier response. Before Dortmund shared that picture, Leipzig had already posted a tweet on the 10-year-challenge.

What a comeback by RB Leipzig!

#2 When Leverkusen went all seventh class geography student on us!

In September 2018, Borussia Dortmund hammered FC Nuremberg by a margin of 7-0. The Bundesliga’s official twitter handle shared a tweet regarding the same.

Things elevated soon when a fan replied to their tweet, stating that West Ham United were leading their game by the same margin against Macclesfield. Bundesliga replied that they meant no offence to Macclesfield, after which Bayer Leverkusen got involved.

We don’t know if this was intentional or not, but it really cracked up the fans. And by the way, West Ham won their League Cup clash 8-0.

#1 When Monchengladbach tried to win the Bundesliga via retweets

This has got to be the most hilarious banter between a football club and a league. Borussia Monchengladbach replied to a fan’s tweet, by tagging Bundesliga, asking how many retweets would it take to be crowned champions. Unsurprisingly, this came the response:

Gladbach though weren’t having any of it, and this is how they reacted to Bundesliga official’s response:

Then Borussia Dortmund came out of nowhere and did this:

What a brilliant turn of events!
