The helmets will be bouncing. The bails will ask to be disturbed. The bats will fancy some blows, the white cricket balls will scream, “don’t hit me anymore!” All of this and more will be failingly calling out to Australian women in the upcoming Women’s T20 challenge.
They’ll be missed in the Women’s T20 challenge
Not always does see anyone from the Australian Women’s side missing out on any cricketing action unless and until some injury comes in between. Right?
It wasn’t great to have seen Meg Lanning sitting out for nearly half a year in 2018. But scheduled to have participated in the upcoming Women’s T20 challenge, it appears as if, there’ll be nobody from Australia Women side in the tournament any longer.
Yes, you read this right and it does appear strange and awful at the same time- does it not?
So what on earth exactly happened? And at what unearthly hour did such a travesty to arrive that among the finest and most successful names in the sport aren’t going to be a part of the Women’s T20 challenge?
Confusion?
Apparently, thanks to a disagreement between the BCCI and Cricket Australia, fans of the sport in India and elsewhere are going to deal with something they may never have imagined.
No more will there be the likes of Megan Schutt, Ellyse Perry, Meg Lanning and the rest participating in the Women’s T20 challenge. This, it appears, is due to a temporary discord that one hopes both BCCI and Cricket Australia will do their best to resolve. But interestingly, the issue seems rather surprising in its nature since it originally has men’s cricket at its heart.
Confused, right? Okay, don’t be. That won’t help.
Originally, both cricketing board had agreed for a particular ODI series wherein the Australian side had to tour India in January 2020. But Cricket Australia had asked for it to be moved to the month of March for the series not to clash with the premier T20 league of Australia, the Big Bash League.
All was fine till that point only for a dead end to arrive immediately.
E-mail exchange that went nowhere, did it?
The two cricketing boards, until a few days back, it is confirmed, had exchanged some e-mails on the matter. This was obviously to fix the issue and arrive at a solution. But this is when things went out of hand.
The BCCI went ahead and announced the squad for the 3-teams in the tournament on Thursday. This, however, included players from Sri Lanka, New Zealand, West Indies, England, and Bangladesh.
An awful lot about the matter is still unknown as to what happened there and why. But what’s known is that inspirational cricketers no stranger to fame, talent, and a commanding fan-base such as Meg Lanning and Ellyse Perry are sorely going to be missed.
The three-team event is scheduled to take place in the ‘Pink City’ Jaipur, the capital of India’s largest state, Rajasthan. And it shall take place between May 6 and 11.
