He has become one the greatest ODI and T20I players in the history of the sport and his achievements speak volumes. In 2015, he was awarded Arjuna Award for his excellence in the Cricket.
The senior batsman is currently plying his trade in the ongoing 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). His team Mumbai Indian need one more win to reach the playoffs.
Rohit will turn his focus towards the ICC World Cup 2019, starting in England and Wales from May 30 onwards.
The talismanic batsman is one of the main assets of the Indian cricket team that’s set to battle it out in the 2019 World Cup.
Here we look at Hitman’s achievements in the game and why he could play a prominent role in helping India win the World Cup.

Rohit a master in the 50-over format

Rohit Sharma

The opener has mastered the ODI format like a king in recent years. He is the only batsman to smash three ODI double hundreds, with his personal best being 264.
The feat recorded by Rohit is also the highest individual score in the history ODI cricket. He achieved the milestone in 2015 against Sri Lanka to help his side win the match by 153 runs in

Rohit also amassed 209 against Australia in 2013 and an unbeaten 208* against Lanka in 2017. All his ODI double hundreds have come on home soil. The manner in which he has set himself in ODIs, makes him a special player.

With 22 hundreds to his name, Rohit was handed the captaincy many times recently when the team decided to rest skipper Virat Kohli. And Rohit came out with flying colours. There is a sense of comfort in his game and that helps him reflect well as a captain.

The go to player is the only second Indian player after Sourav Ganguly to score a century in a knock out match in the ICC World Cup history. Ganguly scored a commanding unbeaten 111 against Kenya in the 2003 World Cup semi-finals. Rohit smashed 137 against Bangladesh in the 2015 World Cup quarters.

His success alongside Shikhar Dhawan at the top (4,586) partnership runs, has also contributed immensely towards his rise. Rohit has scored 8,010 runs in 206 ODIs, with 22 hundreds to his name.

He has risen as a phoenix in T20 cricket

No batsman in the world has commanded the domination as much as Rohit in the T20I format. The versatile player has bossed the 20-over game throughout his career. He is the only batsman in the world to amass four T20I hundreds.
That’s an amazing feat to achieve in one’s career. He amassed the feats against South Africa (2015), Sri Lanka (2017), England and West Indies (2018).
At the moment, it seems that nobody can stop the player from scoring runs so freely in T20Is. Rohit was in sublime form in 2018 and he bagged two tons and three fifties in the format to end up as the highest run-scorer last year.
Overall, he has managed 2,331 runs in 94 T20I matches. He is the highest run-scorer in T20Is and leads Martin Guptill, who is second on the list.
The IPL has played a strong factor in helping Rohit make his presence felt in T20Is. He has captained Mumbai Indians in 100 IPL matches and is only the fourth player to achieve this record after MS Dhoni, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli.
The player also has won four IPL titles in total and shares the record. He is also one of four players in IPL to win the trophy with two different sides (Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians).
Rohit has amassed a total of 4,800 runs in 184 IPL matches. He has one hundred and 35 fifties to his name at an average of 31.53.

India are one of the leading favourites to win the 2019 World Cup. The Men in Blue will need to get off to a strong start in the event and a lot will revolve around Rohit’s antics.
He is massive for the team upfront alongside Dhawan. Their understanding will be immense in providing the side a desired start.

2018 saw both of these players dominating the circuit and creating the platform. With Virat Kohli following suit, India’s biggest strength is the top order. One expects the side to bank on the experienced bunch.
What Rohit will bring is solidity and calmness. He enjoys batting with both Dhawan and Kohli. There is a sense of understanding between the two.
Rohit must have gained aplenty from the 2015 World Cup and he needs to bring that to fruition in the upcoming 2019 edition. He will also be expected to help Kohli in making decisions on the field. India are lucky to have someone like Rohit to guide the side and play match-winning innings.
