The cricket fraternity is currently eyeing on possibilities to resume cricket post COVID-19 era. Cricket behind closed doors is one of the possibilities to dive into to resume action again on field.
However, cricketers are still skeptical about the consideration of playing the game in empty stadium. Former English batsman Ian Bell is the new name to express his views against the option being considered.
Hard to imagine the sports without fans
Ian Bell told the PA news agency that he had realized from the great moments of Ashes in 2005 that atmosphere is something that is requisite for cricket.
“You think of that great Freddie Flintoff spell at Edgbaston what would that have been like without the fans and the atmosphere? It’s hard to imagine,” Ian Bell told PA news agency.
He also maintained that we should get used to it even though it’s not ideal to play without spectators and fans.
It would be hard to hold the emotion
Ian Bell further told that hugs, handshakes and ‘ruffling the hairs’ are part of the celebration and it would be tough to maintain the social distancing norms during the moments.
“Emotion can get the best of you at the best of times, and certainly when you’re playing Australia. It would be a challenge to hold it back and something the lads who go out there will have to try their best to do I would have found it virtually impossible in 2005,” said the 38-year-old.
Concluding his statement he told that players’ safety is paramount and thus they (players) have to control the emotions.
