  • Coach Shastri said – If both do not leave for Australia in next 4-5 days, then it is difficult for them to play in Test.

There was a fierce controversy over Rohit Sharma being named in the squad for the ODI and T20 series against Australia. Now the head coach of the team, Ravi Shastri, has given a big statement about his play in the Test series. He said that “if Rohit and Ishant Sharma do not sit in Australia’s flight in the next 4-5 days, then it will be difficult for them to play in the Test.”

Currently, Rohit and Ishant are going through the rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bengaluru. Both suffered injuries during IPL 2020. Ishant missed almost the entire season and Rohit missed 4 matches.

NCA will decide how long it will take Rohit to fit

According to sports website Cricinfo, while talking to ABC Sports, on Rohit, he said that he is going through some tests to prove his fitness in NCA and it will decide from there how long he will take. He further said that if he took more time there, things would get difficult. After this you have to talk about quarantine. In such a situation, if they reach Australia at the last time of the Test series, then it will be difficult for them to play.

In the case of Rohit not being included in the one-day and T20 teams, coach Shastri said that he was not going to participate in limited-overs cricket. We had to see how much rest Rohit needs. He said that we cannot afford to rest a player for a long time.

Kohli supported on Paternity Leave by Rohit

Captain Virat Kohli’s decision to take paternity leave after the first Test against Australia was supported by the coach. He said that Kohli’s decision is absolutely correct. Such moments do not come again and again in life. The rest of the team’s players will have a chance to prove themselves in their absence.

Regarding the Pink Ball Test, Shastri said that Australia has more experience than India in this matter. The Kangaroo team has played a total of 7 pink ball tests so far and has won all. India has played and won the only Pink Ball Test against Bangladesh so far. He said there is no comparison between Bangladesh and Australia. As of our team, we are in the learning phase right now.

Rohit had said – there was little work left in the ham-string, so took the rest

Recently, Rohit said that there was a little more work on the ham-string during the IPL. On the Australia tour, 6 matches were to be held in 11 days, including back-to-back and T20. So I thought that I should fit myself in 25 days after the IPL, so that I can play the test.

Rohit Sharma did not play some IPL matches for Mumbai due to a ham-string injury. After this, he was not included in the team for the tour of Australia. However, he made a comeback in the IPL play-offs and played a brilliant innings in the final. A few days later, the BCCI added him to the team for the Test series. Some veteran cricketers and social media users have also targeted Rohit and BCCI.

Team India has to play four test matches in Australia

Team India has to play three ODIs and three T20 matches as well as four Test matches in Australia. The first Test starts in Adelaide from 17 December, this will be India’s first day-night test abroad.
