  • Australia take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3 ODIs series, next match in Canberra on 2 December
  • India lost their second consecutive ODI series on overseas ground, New Zealand beat home 3–0 in February.

Australia defeated the Indian team by 51 runs in the second match of the 3 ODI series. With this, the team has taken an unassailable 2–0 lead in the series. Australia defeated the Indian team by 66 runs at the same Sydney Cricket Ground in the first ODI of the series. The last match of the series will be held on 2 December in Canberra.

Team India has lost its second ODI series on foreign soil. The last time New Zealand beat Team India 3–0 in February was in their home country.

India score 338 in response to the target of 390 runs

Australia won the toss and batting first gave a target of 390 runs. In response, the Indian team could only score 338 runs after losing 9 wickets. For the team, Virat Kohli scored 89 and Lokesh Rahul scored 76 runs.

Indian openers Mayank Agarwal (28) and Shikhar Dhawan (30) gave a good start by partnering 58 runs. After this, both batsmen returned to the pavilion early. Pat Cummins had Mayank caught by wicketkeeper Alex Carey and Josh Hazlewood caught Dhawan by Mitchell Starc.

Major partnership for 3rd, 4th and 5th wickets

After this, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer shared the innings with a partnership of 93 runs for the third wicket. However, Iyer returned to the pavilion after scoring 38 runs. After this, Kohli shared a 72-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Lokesh Rahul. After Kohli’s dismissal, Rahul shared a 63-run partnership for the 5th wicket with Hardik Pandya, but could not win.

Among Australian bowlers, Pat Cummins took 3 wickets, while Josh Hazlewood and Adam Jampa had 2–2 success. Moises Henriques and Glenn Maxwell took 1–1 wickets.

Cummins took 3 consecutive wickets

Pat Cummins took 3 wickets in the match. First, he got opener Mayank Agarwal (28) caught by wicketkeeper Alex Carrie. Cummins then took two consecutive wickets on the 46th inning of the innings and the first two balls of his 10th over. He got Ravindra Jadeja (24) caught by Maxwell and Hardik Pandya (28) at the hands of Smith.

Warner got injured

In the fourth over of the Indian innings, David Warner was injured and went out of the ground during fielding. On the fourth ball of Hazlewood’s over, Dhawan played a straight shot, which Warner dived to stop.

Australia made the biggest score against India

Australia scored 389 runs losing 4 wickets. This is also the team’s highest score against India. This was the first time Australia had scored the highest score against India in the first ODI of the series, scoring 374 on 27 November. Overall South Africa holds the record for the highest score of 438 runs against India. This score was made in the 2015 Mumbai ODI.

Opening partnership of 100+ runs in second consecutive match

Smith hit 104 off 64 balls. This was his 11th century in ODI career. Apart from him, David Warner scored 83, Aaron Finch 60, Marnus Labushane 70 and Glenn Maxwell scored 63 runs. Opener Warner and Finch gave a brilliant start in the second consecutive match (142 runs) with a century partnership.

Finch was caught by Mohammed Shami at the hands of Virat Kohli after putting on the 28th fifty. After this, Warner, who had made his 23rd fifty of the ODI career, also started walking. He was runout by Shreyas Iyer. Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya took 1-1 wickets for India.

Second century partnership in the match

Steve Smith and Marnus Labushane handled the innings and shared a 136-run partnership for the third wicket. Smith was caught by Hardik Pandya at the hands of Shami. After this, Labushane partnered 80 runs for the fourth wicket with Glenn Maxwell to bring the team score to 350. Labushane placed his third ODI career and Maxwell scored the 21st.

Hardik Pandya, who recovered from injury, bowled for the first time after 14 months. He took 1 wicket for 24 runs in 4 overs. Pandya last bowled in the Bengaluru T20 against South Africa on 22 September 2019. In this, he took 1 wicket. After his comeback, he scored 281 runs in 14 matches for Mumbai Indians in the IPL. During this time he did not bowl.

Centenary opening partnership in 3 consecutive matches against India for the first time

For the first time in the Indian 978 ODI history, the opposition team has a 100+ run opening partnership in three consecutive matches. In the last ODI, David Warner and Aaron Finch had the opening partnership of 156 runs.

Injured Stoinis out of Australia team

Australian Captain Aaron Finch replaced Moises Henriques in the playing XI, replacing injured Marcus Stoinis. At the same time, Indian captain Virat Kohli did not change the playing eleven. After the defeat in the first match, Team India will have to win this match to remain in the series. At the moment, Australia lead the series 1-0.

Indian bowlers did not get any wickets in the power-play in the last 5 ODIs.

Indian bowlers have taken just 5 wickets in the first 14 ODIs in the first power-play (opening 10 overs). In the last 5 matches, the bowlers did not get any success. During this, the team plundered 251 runs in 50 overs.

Kohli 9th Indian to play 250th ODI

This was Virat Kohli’s 250th ODI. He is the 9th Indian to achieve this feat. Sachin Tendulkar (463) is the most ODI playing Indian. So far Mahendra Singh Dhoni (347), Rahul Dravid (340), Mohammad Azharuddin (334), Sourav Ganguly (308), Yuvraj Singh (301), Anil Kumble (269) have also achieved this feat. Kohli has scored 11888 runs in 249 ODIs at an average of 59.14. During this, he scored 43 centuries and 58 fifty.

Finch-Rahul is seen having fun

Navdeep Saini’s ball was on Finch’s stomach in the 12th over of the Australian innings. The umpire gave it a no-ball. After this, wicketkeeper Lokesh Rahul, Finch, Yuzvendra Chahal and David Warner were seen having fun with each other.
