The Indian Premier League (IPL) Auction 2020 was held in Kolkata on Thursday. Several international stars received mega bids as franchises went the distance to get them. Most of the mega international names that were expected to garner mega bids in the IPL Auction 2020, went on to do well.
Australia’s star fast bowler Pat Cummins was bought by two-time IPL winners, Kolkata Knight Riders, for Rs. 15.50 crore. The Aussie sensation became the costliest foreigner ever in the IPL history. He surpassed the mark of Ben Stokes (14.5 crores), who was picked by Rising Pune Supergiant in 2017.
Another Australian cricketer Glenn Maxwell was sold to Kings XI Punjab for Rs 10.75 crore. The all-rounder, who recently returned from a mental health break, is set to feature in the upcoming Big Bash League. KXIP went all the way to get in Maxi, who had earlier played a major role here.
Besides these two Australian superstars, several other names bagged mega bids. The likes of Shimron Hetmyer (Rs. 7.75 crores) was roped in by Delhi Capitals. Nathan Coulter-Nile bagged a staggering Rs 8 crore after being taken by Mumbai Indians. South African senior all-rounder Chris Morris was purchased by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 10 crore.
Other solid guns in the form of Sheldon Cottrell (Rs 8.85 crore – Kings XI Punjab), Aaron Finch (Rs 4.50 crore – Royal Challengers Bangalore), Sam Curran (Rs 5.50 crore – Chennai Super Kings) and Eoin Morgan (Rs 5.25 crore – Kolkata Knight Riders) were also among the maximum gainers in the IPL Auction 2020.
Besides these players, many uncapped Indian players drew massive bids. Varun Chakravarthy led the way with Rs 4 crore after being bought by KKR.

Cummins and Morgan lead the line for KKR in IPL Auction 2020
KKR will be ecstatic regarding the business they did in the IPL Auction 2020. Cummins comes in and lifts up the bowling department. He is world-class and can make a difference for the eastern giants. It was a smart move by KKR to get in the Aussie sensation. In Morgan, KKR gets an experienced leader in the ranks. The Englishman led England to the 2019 World Cup glory.
He lifts that middle order for KKR. Besides these two superstars, KKR got in the young Tom Banton of England, who is a fine option at the top, was roped in by the side for Rs 1 crore.

Chennai Super Kings did not need major tweaks as they had a well-sorted side. With whatever purse they had, the side roped in strong names in the form of Sam Curran and Josh Hazlewood.
Meanwhile, veteran Piyush Chawla is another experienced spinner added to their pool of spinners for CSK. CSK spent big on these three players and will be satisfied.

Hetmyer was the headline purchase for DC and he can add power in that middle order. Marcus Stoinis and Alex Carey were also roped in as strong support cast. Woakes is a solid buy and gives them options.

They will be KXIP’s main two assets in the starting XI as the season progresses. In Jimmy Neesham, KXIP gets a solid all-rounder and in Chris Jordan, an experienced pacer comes in at the ranks.
