La Liga 2019-20: Fixtures and Predictions | Gameweek 38

After an intense battle of nine months, La Liga finally crowned its champions in midweek as Real Madrid edged out Villareal by a 2-1 margin to pick up their 34th league crown.

Elsewhere, Barcelona suffered a humiliating 1-2 loss at the hands of Osasuna, which will only add more pressure to Quique Setien’s underperforming team

While the title race may have been sorted but there’s still lots to look forward to in the final La Liga gameweek, as the relegation scrap and European race is still very much alive and kicking.

Real Mallorca got relegated recently after they were beaten by Granada 1-2, meanwhile, Leganes’s surprising 2-0 win over Athletic club has given them a huge lifeline in order to salvage their season.

With that said, let’s get straight into the thick of the action for one last time as La Liga draws to a close this week after the conclusion of gameweek 38.

Alaves vs Barcelona (Prediction: 1-1)

While Barcelona failed to do their job in midweek, Alaves on the other hand, successfully steered past Real Betis by a scoreline of 2-1  to all but secure their place in the Spanish top-flight.

The two teams will now lock horns in gameweek 38, but neither have anything left worth fighting for this season.

That being said, Barcelona will hope to register a win at the Mendizorozza on Sunday night to end their abysmal La Liga campaign on a high.

Real Valladolid vs Real Betis (Prediction: 0-0)

Two teams who have struggled in recent weeks, Real Valladolid and Real Betis, will see out their campaign with a meeting at the Jose Zorrilla on Sunday night.

Again, there’s isn’t an awful lot riding on this game, however, both sides will understandably hope to end the La Liga 2019-20 season on a winning note.

The visitors are currently two points ahead of Valladolid in 14th place, although when they will take to the field, we’re guessing there won’t be much to separate these two sides.

Villarreal vs Eibar (Prediction: 2-1)

Villarreal may have suffered a narrow defeat to Real Madrid but they need just one point to clinch a berth in the Europa League, and given Eibar’s recent resurgence, we have a really exciting fixture on our hands.

The visitors defeated Real Valladolid 3-1 and will be expected to give the Yellow Submarine a hard time at El Madrigal. We’re going for a home win, judging by Villarreal’s firepower and attacking flair.

Osasuna vs Real Mallorca (Prediction: 2-0)

Mallorca gave it their all but their failure to overcome Granada in midweek means they will have to bid adieu to La Liga after their game against Osasuna at El Sadar.

Osasuna, meanwhile, gave an excellent account of themselves win a surprising win over Barcelona and will be expected to have an easier outing against Mallorca.

This should be the most straightforward result of gameweek 38, and we’re going to put our money on Osasuna.

Atletico Madrid vs Real Sociedad (Prediction 1-1)

While a majority of matches in La Liga will be exhibition games this week, the meeting between Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad will be anything but that, and the onus will be on La Real, who cannot afford any slip-ups at this stage.

For Atletico, it will be just another game, given they have secured Champions League qualification, but Sociedad simply have to win to keep hold of sixth place.

Anything other than that could allow Valencia or Granda to make things interesting.

Levante vs Getafe (Prediction: 1-1)

Similar to the Atletico versus Sociedad game, the match between Levante and Getafe is of little importance to the home side, but for the visitors, it all comes down to this very fixture.

Getafe were beaten by Los Rojiblancos recently by a 0-2 margin, and that’s why winning on Sunday is of paramount importance for Jose Bordalas’ men.

A draw or a defeat will open up the gates for Granada or Valencia, but Getafe have their fate in their own hands, and they know what needs to be done to secure Europa League football.

Granada vs Athletic Club (Prediction: 1-0)

Speaking of Granada, the club from Andalusia simply have to win their match in gameweek 38 against Athletic Bilbao, to have any hopes of leapfrogging those above them and secure a place in the Europa League.

The club from Los Carmenes will certainly fancy their chances against a struggling Bilbao side, and there’s little margin of error for Granada, and anything apart from three points wouldn’t help their case.

Espanyol vs Celta Vigo (Prediction: 0-1)

After their recent 2-3 defeat against Levante, Celta would be kicking themselves. However, they have one more chance to salvage their La Liga campaign by registering a win away at Espanyol.

The hosts have already been relegated to the Segunda Division, but they can do Leganes a big favour by defeating Celta Vigo. The chances of that happening are very slim, given Espanyol’s woeful run of form coming into this fixture. But anything can happen in this crazy league.

Leganes vs Real Madrid (Prediction: 1-1)

Heading into gameweek 38, Leganes have a clear view of what needs to be done, they simply need to win, although they are scheduled to host newly-crowned La Liga champions Real Madrid at the Burtaque.

After winning against Bilbao, the home did give themselves a lifeline and will need to put in the hard yards in order to climb out of danger. Zidane’s team are on a ten-game winning streak and will be favourites to extend that run on Sunday night.

Leganes have their work cut out and have got a mountain to climb, but if they can pull this off, it will be a true fairytale.

Sevilla vs Valencia (Prediction: 2-1)

Valencia’s win over Espanyol in midweek did give them a huge lifeline, meaning Los Che can still qualify for Europe, although they need those above them to falter.

They face a trip to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan next, and luckily for them, Sevilla’s four-match winning streak ended in midweek as they were held by Real Sociedad.

A win on Sunday would really help Valencia’s case, however, their fate is out of their hands.
