India Slips to third position in latest ICC Test Rankings

In the latest ICC Test Rankings update by ICC on Friday, India lost it top spot slipping to the third position after Australia and New Zealand. This is the first time since October 2016 that India is not at the top of the ICC Test Rankings.

In the latest update, ICC rated all matches played since May 2019 at 100 per cent and those of the previous two years at 50 per cent. By this calculus, Australia topped the list with 116 points and New Zealand sealed the second spot with 115 points. India, with 114 points now slipped to the third position.

India still ahead in ICC World Test Championship

Although, India lost it number one position to Australia, it still leads the ICC World Test Championship, a league comprising six series played by each of the top nine Test sides.

With three series win out of four played by in the ICC World Test Championship, it has earned 360 points to conquer the list while Australia is at the second position, trailing behind India by 64 points.

The only series India lost in the test championship was against New Zealand this year, which was a first major overseas assignment of 2020 before the Covid-19 pandemic brought the sporting world to a grinding halt.

In other ranking updates, India remains in the second position in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings while the World Champions England increased their leave from six to eight points. With three points behind India, NZ remains in the third spot.

However, In the T20 ranking, Australia succeeded to clinch the top position. The Kangaroos dethroned Pakistan to lead the ranking tally.

With 278 points Australia sealed the first spot for the first time since the T20I rankings were introduced in 2011 and with this, Pakistan slipped to 4th position in the T20 tally with 260 points. India remained in the third position with two behind England who are second in the ranking with 268 points.
