Australia’s slow-left arm orthodox spinner Ashton Agar believes that his performance in limited-overs formats will help him earn a spot in Test team.
Ashton Agar, the slow-left arm spinner, has impressed everyone with his performance in limited-overs format of the game and the player believes that he will trade this to earn a spot in the test team.
But, the road to Test team is not an easy go since a number of players are eyeing on the spot to partner Nathan Lyon in overseas tours. A few days ago, Adam Zampa too had expressed the same desire to play in whites for Australia.
I keep putting performance on the board
While Ashton is a fixture in shortest format of the game for Australia since he has continuously featured in last nine games of the team, he feels that he needs extra effort to make it to the ODI and Tests.
“I felt really consistent. To play consistent Test cricket you need to have a really good idea about how you go about your bowling for a long period of time, said Ashton Agar to Cricket.com.au.
He also added that he always tries to bounce back whenever got dropped from the team in ODIs and will continue to do so.
“It’s been tough being in and out, in and out, that’s how my journey has felt like in white-ball cricket for Australia but hopefully I get a good run at it like I am at the moment, keep putting the performances on the board.”
You just have to stay ready
Speaking further with cricket.com.au, Ashton Agar said that this COVID-19 pandemic hit the cricket activities heavily but even though players need to be prepared.
“It’s hard to predict anything in this climate but in terms of preparation, it’s really simple: you just have to stay ready,” Agar said.
“Your job as a professional international cricketer is you always have to be ready because opportunities come and go and you really need to take them when they present because it’s a really tough environment to stay in if you’re not performing.”
