100 T20 International Matches For Rohit Sharma: List Of His Best Moments

On Thursday, the Indian cricket team’s Rohit Sharma became the second male player in the world to reach the milestone of featuring in 100 T20Is. Rohit Sharma Cricket Career now reads 100 T20I matches with the most number of runs in T20Is. Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik is the only other cricketer to have played 100 matches in the shortest format (111).

Considering women’s cricket as well, India’s T20I skipper Harmanpreet Kaur has featured in 100 or more T20I matches. Besides her, New Zealander Suzie Bates and Australia’s Ellyse Perry (both 111) have surpassed the mark as well.

Notably, India’s stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma’s Cricket Career registered the mark against Bangladesh in the 2nd T20I in Rajkot.

Rohit Sharma Cricket Career also crossed Shahid Afridi’s mark (99) to become the 2nd-most capped male cricketer in the world.

Earlier, during the 1st T20I in Delhi, Rohit Sharma Cricket Career reads him as the most-capped Indian men’s player in T20Is, surpassing the legendary MS Dhoni (98).

When you look at T20Is, Rohit Sharma Cricket Career is one of the leading names in the format.

He is the highest run-scorer in T20Is, besides having several other records such as most sixes, most tons and joint-most fifty-plus scores.

The 32-year-old’s success in T20Is is a laudable feat. He stands tall and has shaped India’s approach in the format.

On Thursday, Rohit cracked it up against Bangladesh in Rajkot. He went on to smash a 43-ball 89.

His innings, however, had thrown the visitors off track as India completed an eight-wicket hammering to level the three-match series with more than four overs to spare.

The Hitman brought up his 18th half-century off only 23 deliveries, ending up hitting six sixes and as many fours.

Another major aspect of India’s massive win was the opening 118-run partnership between Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan. The latter happily played second-fiddle in a 27-ball 31 until he was cleaned up by Aminul Islam.

India was 63/0 in the first Powerplay. They were well past 100-run mark—113/0 in 10 overs—as Bangladesh failed to stand up against an Indian batting force.

Coming back to the Hitman, we look at the best moments of Rohit Sharma Cricket Career.

The carrier of four T20I centuries

Rohit and Dhawan

Scoring a century in T20 cricket is a massive achievement. However, getting multiple ones in the international scenario is something extraordinary.

Rohit Sharma Cricket Career reads him as the only player to have hit four T20I hundreds; Australia’s Glenn Maxwell and New Zealand’s Colin Munro having hit three each.

Besides the first hundred, the other three led India to wins. The first one is always special and the opener and he slammed 106 against South Africa in 2015 in Dharamsala.

His 66-ball affair, however, could not help India as Proteas chased down a target of 200.

The second-century came off a mere 35 balls, against Sri Lanka in Indore in December 2017. It saw him become the joint-fastest to the mark alongside South Africa’s David Miller and Czech Republic’s Sudesh Wickramasekara.

The opener’s 43-ball 118 included 12 fours and 10 sixes and powered Team India to its highest T20I total of 260/5.

His third affair came against England in 2018. And that innings of 100* helped India chase down a target of 199. The final one was against West Indies in Lucknow last year, The innings of 111* was another massive treat.

Getting to bat with a successful partner

Best opening pair

Rohit is an opener and his partner at the top – Dhawan – has been a rock in terms of support and understanding. The two senior men have gone about their business in a strong mode for a while now. Both have achieved several cricket feats together in their cricket career.

These two have dictated the show both in ODIs and T20Is and that has given India the luxury to assert themselves in white-ball cricket.

You have to give credit to Dhawan for playing the perfect foil for Rohit.

There is that certain sense of freedom when you watch these two bats at the top for India. In T20Is, the two have featured in 51 innings as a pair. And they lead the charts in terms of runs scored.

The two players have amassed 1,740 partnership runs at an average of 34.11.

That’s the most by any pair in the format. What is fascinating is that they have four century-plus stands and 7 fifties.

If you want to be successful in the format, setting the base is crucial. And both Rohit and Dhawan are pioneers of the game.

Rohit Sharma Cricket Career in T20Is

Rohit bats against Bangladesh

The right-handed batsman has hit 115 sixes in T20Is, the most by any player in the format.

No wonder he has been given the title of the Hitman.

A striking feature about his six-hitting is that he relies more on the timing and maintaining his shape. He isn’t someone who is just aiming to muscle the ball past the boundary rope.

The senior opener has also hit 225 fours too, the second most behind Virat Kohli’s 235; thus, he leads the overall boundary count with 340.

This is absolute madness from Rohit and it shows how he loves picking the boundaries and gives his side an edge.

Rohit Sharma Cricket Career has 18 fifties, second after Kohli’s 22. Along with his four tons, it makes him the joint record-holder for most 50-plus scores in the format.

One interesting aspect of his journey in terms of T20Is as he scored a match-winning knock in the very first outing in the format.

The senior cricketer scored an unbeaten fifty in a must-win game against South Africa in Durban during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2007.

Rohit has faced some stiff competition in the run-making charts. Kohli has kept him on his toes with consistency on offer. For now, Rohit is leading the way with 2537 runs from 92 innings.

His best run came in 2018 when he made 590 runs from 18 innings at an average of 36.88. His run-scoring year included two unbeaten hundreds against England and West Indies.

Rohit has led Team India well whenever called upon

A leader is as good as his team and Rohit is a natural captain of the ship. His attributes have given India the platform to rest Kohli when needed.

The Mumbaikar, who has helped Mumbai Indians win four IPL titles so far, enjoys a strong show as captain in the shortest format as well.

In 17 matches as a leader for Team India, Rohit has led the side to 13 wins and four losses. He has a winning percentage of 76.47.

The most highlighted achievement of Rohit as Team India’s captain was the 2018 Nidahas Trophy tri-series victory. That will top the charts for a long long time.
