Serie A 2019-20: Fixtures and Predictions | Gameweek 29

After the conclusion of the Bundesliga, coupled with Liverpool’s triumph in the Premier League, only La Liga and Serie A can offer the fans the thrills and chills of a title race.

In Italy, Juventus are ahead of the chasing pack, having opened up a four-point lead. Second-placed Lazio can temporarily cut down that lead by winning all three points against Torino on game week 29, given they kick-off earlier than the Turin side’s game versus Genoa.

Moreover, the marquee fixture of this week will see high flyers Atalanta welcome Napoli to the Atleti Azzuri d’Italia. That and much more is in store for us, so without further ado, let’s preview all the action that awaits us in gameweek 29 of Serie A

Torino vs Lazio (Prediction: 1-3)

After a defeat to Atalanta in gameweek 27, Lazio bounced back to winning ways with a 2-1 win over Fiorentina to keep within touching distance of Juventus. On Tuesday night, the Eagles will travel to Olimpico di Torino to take on 13th placed Torino.

The home team were recently beaten by Cagliari by a 2-4 margin and given their current struggles, Lazio will be favourites to pick up all three points in this match.

Genoa vs Juventus (Prediction: 1-2)

A few hours after Lazio’s game, Juventus return to action in gameweek 29 with an away trip to the Luigi Ferraris, to play 17th-placed Genoa, who are just one point above the drop zone.

Winless in their past five Serie A games, the home side can expect a difficult match against an in-form Turin side, who trounced Lecce 4-0 lately.

This should be another straightforward win for the Old Lady, who have found their groove, heading into the final stretch of fixtures, with their sights firmly set on the Scudetto.

Bologna vs Cagliari (Prediction: 1-1)

10th-placed Bologna will welcome 11th-placed Cagliari at the Renato Dall’Ara on Wednesday night with just one point separating the two sides. Moreover, with Europe seemingly out of reach, there’s little more than pride at stake for both teams in this fixture.

After two consecutive defeats recently, Bologna got back to winning ways with a routine 2-1 win over Sampdoria, while Cagliari defeated Torino 4-2 last week. That being said, the two teams look evenly matched and should produce a good game.

Inter Milan vs Brescia (Prediction: 3-1)

Antonio Conte’s side recently overcame Parma with a narrow 2-1 win to stay within eight points of Juventus, well in contention for a place in the Champions League next season.

Next up, Inter Milan will welcome relegation-threatened Brescia, who haven’t won a game in the Serie A since 14th December 2019.

Most recently, the visitors played out a 2-2 draw with Genoa, although few would give them any chances when they travel to the San Siro.

Lecce vs Sampdoria (Prediction: 1-1)

On Wednesday night, Lecce will play hosts to Sampdoria at the Via del Mare in a game that could go a long way towards deciding the fate of these two clubs. After getting trounced by Juventus, Lecce remain in 18th place, just one point behind their adversaries of this week.

Sampdoria, meanwhile, have lost all three games since the league’s restart, the most recent defeat coming at the hands of Bologna. That being said, with so little to separate these two sides, we’re expecting a stalemate in this game.

SPAL vs AC Milan (Prediction: 1-2)

AC Milan have won both of their Serie A games since the COVID-19 enforced break, and will be favourites to pick up all three points against relegation-threatened SPAL.

The two home side remain rooted to the foot of the table, after their latest defeat at the hands of Napoli. The Rossoneri, meanwhile, overcame AS Roma by 2-0 scoreline, to remain seventh on the standings.

On Wednesday, when these two sides meet, Milan will be the clear favourites, judging by the recent form of both teams.

Fiorentina vs Sassuolo (Prediction: 1-1)

Fiorentina have only picked up one point from their previous two games after the recent break, and are subsequently languishing on 14th place.

La Viola were beaten by Lazio lately, although they can expect an easier outing in the next home game versus Sassuolo. Similarly, the visitors have also struggled to pick up points of late, which is why Sassuolo are in 12th place.

Only three points separate these two teams, although there’s little more than pride worth fighting for this late in the season.

Atalanta vs Napoli (Prediction: 3-2)

Serie A’s most in-form team of the moment, Atalanta will welcome Napoli to their den in gameweek 29 on Thursday night.

One of the most anticipated games of this week, the match is of great importance for both teams as they are embroiled in the race for European qualification.

The home side have won all of their previous six league matches, a streak that goes all the way back to February earlier this year.

This, in turn, makes them the favourites for the match against Napoli, who are amidst a five-game winning streak themselves; expect a cracking encounter.

Hellas Verona vs Parma (Prediction: 2-2)

Another Serie A match in gameweek 29 that could promise fireworks will be played between Hellas Verona and Parma on Wednesday. The two sides are tied on 39 points each, albeit the Scaligers are just one place ahead of the Crusaders, in eighth place.

Both teams have won, lost and drawn once each in their previous three games, although the winner of this match could go on and challenge AC Milan for a place in the Europa League, which makes the match a must-win for both sides.

Roma vs Udinese (Prediction: 1-1)

After a disappointing result against AC Milan, AS Roma will have redemption in their thoughts as they welcome Udinese to Stadio Olimpico on the last game of this week’s round of fixtures on Thursday night.

The visitors have drawn once and lost two matches since Serie A’s restarted, and, therefore, Udinese are treading in dangerous territory, three points above relegation spots, in 15th place.

Roma, meanwhile, will have to fight it out with Napoli for their European ambitious, which makes this game a must-win to take away all three points from a team struggling to get their act together.
