Serie A 2019-20: Fixtures and Predictions | Gameweek 37

Serie A has finally joined the rest of the major European football leagues with confirmed champions of its own after Juventus claimed their ninth consecutive Scudetto with a 2-0 win over Sampdoria on Sunday night.

The spotlight will now shift to the other battles in Italy’s top flight, with the likes of Inter Milan, Atalanta and Lazio fighting for a second-place finish and Lecce edging closer to relegation after a 3-2 loss to Bologna over the weekend.

AS Roma, AC Milan and Napoli also continue their fight for a top-six finish, although Gennaro Gattuso’s men have already secured Europa League football by winning the Coppa Italia last month.

Without further ado, let us take a look at what gameweek 37 of Serie A has in store for us:

Parma vs Atalanta (Prediction: 0-2)

Parma are scheduled to welcome Atalanta to the Ennio Tardini Stadium on Tuesday night for their penultimate fixture of the current Serie A campaign.

While the hosts- who are 11th on the points table- have little to play for this season, they will be keen on improving on their 14th-placed finish last term with positive results in their last two games.

Meanwhile, Atalanta, who occupy third place in the standings, will be aiming to reclaim the second position from Inter Milan after they suffered a drop because of the Nerazzurri’s 3-0 win over Genoa on Saturday.

Inter Milan vs Napoli (Prediction: 2-1)

Inter Milan will be looking to consolidate their current position in the Serie A standings when they play host to Napoli at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Tuesday night. Antonio Conte’s men leapfrogged Atalanta to the second spot on the table after a thumping 3-0 win over Genoa on Saturday and will be aiming to finish just behind Juventus after the Bianconeri sealed the Serie A title on Sunday.

Napoli, on the other hand, occupy seventh place on the points table and are keen on finishing the season in the top six, despite having already secured a place in next season’s Europa League with their Coppa Italia win. They will also look to end their Serie A campaign on a good note before facing Barcelona in the second leg of their Round of 16 Champions League clash on August 8.

Lazio vs Brescia (Prediction: 3-0)

Lazio welcome Brescia to the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday evening with the hopes of moving further up the table to finish above Inter Milan and Atalanta by the end of the season.

The hosts occupy fourth place in the standings after their Serie A title challenge fizzled out courtesy of a bad run of form after the restart.

Meanwhile, Brescia are 19th on the points table with nothing to play for as they were relegated to Serie B only a year after their promotion to the top flight. Le Rondinelle, who were dropped after suffering a 3-1 defeat to Lecce, can only aim for an upset on Wednesday, although that seems like an unlikely possibility.

Sampdoria vs AC Milan (Prediction: 1-3)

Sampdoria will play host to AC Milan at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Wednesday shortly after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Juventus, who secured the Serie A title with the victory. They occupy 15th place in the standings and have little to play for as they are nine points clear of the last relegation spot.

AC Milan, on the other hand, are in the midst of a battle for a top-six finish as they sit sixth on the table, four points away from fifth-placed AS Roma and only one point clear of seventh-placed Napoli. They will certainly be keen on strengthening their bid for Europa League football next season with a win over their Genoa-based opponents.

Sassuolo vs Genoa (Prediction: 1-1)

Sassuolo will be looking to reduce the gap between themselves and Napoli when they welcome Genoa to the Mapei Stadium on Wednesday evening. Roberto De Zerbi’s men occupy eighth place in the Serie A standings, 11 points away from seventh-placed Napoli, and virtually have nothing more to play for this season.

Meanwhile, Genoa are only four points clear of the final relegation spot at 17th place and will be keen to move further up the table to avoid being relegated to the second tier at the last minute.

Udinese vs Lecce (Prediction: 2-0)

Udinese and Lecce will go head to head at the Dacia Arena Stadium in a fixture that is particularly crucial for the relegation-struggling visitors.

While the hosts will be content with finishing the season a few places higher than their current 13th position, Fabio Liverani’s men are four points away from 17th-placed Genoa and must secure all three points to remain in Serie A.

Hellas Verona vs SPAL (Prediction: 2-0)

Hellas Verona are set to play host to SPAL at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi on Wednesday as they look to secure a top-eight finish in Serie A. Ivan Jurić’s men are ninth in the standings, two points behind eighth-placed Sassuolo, and will be keen on leapfrogging the Neroverdi by winning the next two games.

Meanwhile, SPAL are at the bottom of the standings and were the first team to be relegated to Serie B after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Brescia a week ago.

Cagliari vs Juventus (Prediction: 0-2)

Cagliari are set to welcome Juventus to the Sardegna Arena on Wednesday night with the hopes of dampening the newly-declared champions’ celebrations as Walter Zenga’s men themselves have little to achieve this season.

They currently sit 14th in the standings, level on points with Udinese, with a top-ten finish an unlikely possibility.

Meanwhile, the Bianconeri can breathe a sigh of relief after securing their ninth consecutive Serie A title after securing a 2-0 win over Sampdoria on Sunday. The Turin giants have not been at their best since the restart and were on the receiving end of a series of defeats before achieving their unprecedented feat with two games to go. They will be hopeful of building on their weekend victory to build confidence that will be required when they start their Champions League duties.

Fiorentina vs Bologna (Prediction: 2-2)

Fiorentina will be looking to strengthen their challenge for a top-ten finish when they welcome Bologna to the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Wednesday night. Giuseppe Iachini’s men currently occupy 12th place on the table and have a remote chance of finishing the season in the top half of the table.

However, the Florence-based club would have to get the better of Bologna, who sit three points away from them in 10th place and are trying to move further up the table themselves.

Torino vs AS Roma (Prediction: 0-2)

Torino and AS Roma will face off at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino on Wednesday night, with the two clubs holding contrasting hopes on opposite sides of the Serie A table.

While the Turin outfit have no further ambitions for the season other than to finish in a higher position in the bottom half of the table, their Rome-based opponents- who occupy fifth place in the standings- will be looking to consolidate their position as AC Milan and Napoli continue to keep them on their toes.
