Team India is almost out of the race to reach the final of the Asia Cup. Sri Lanka defeated India by 6 wickets in the Super-4 match played on Tuesday. Batting first after losing the toss, India scored 173 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. Captain Rohit Sharma played an innings of 72 runs. In reply, Sri Lanka achieved the target in 19.5 overs for the loss of four wickets.

Sri Lankan openers Pathum Nisanka and Kusal Mendis put on a 97-run partnership for the first wicket. Both added 97 runs in 11 overs. Nisanka was dismissed for 52 runs in 37 balls. At one point Sri Lanka’s score was reduced to four wickets for 110 runs.

It seemed that the Indian team would win the match, but Bhanuka Rajapaksa and captain Dasun Shanaka together gave Sri Lanka victory. Bhanuka made 25 runs in 17 balls and Shanaka played an unbeaten innings of 33 runs in 18 balls.

The Thriller of Last Over

Sri Lanka needed 7 runs in the last over to win. Arshdeep gave only 5 runs in the first four balls. The batsman could not play a shot on the fifth ball. Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant had a run out chance but his throw did not hit the wicket.

After this, there was no throw at the non-striker’s end either. In this Sri Lankan batsmen took two runs and won the match. The Indian team is still in the race for the final on paper. But, for this many miracles have to happen at the same time.

If these conditions are fulfilled then India can reach the final.

  • Sri Lanka team beat Pakistan
  • India defeated Afghanistan in their last Super-4 match
  • Afghanistan team also defeated Pakistan
After all this, Sri Lanka will remain at number-1 with 6 points. India, Pakistan and Afghanistan will have two points each. India must have the best net run rate among these three teams.

Team India captain Rohit Sharma’s bat spoke a lot against Sri Lanka. He played a blistering innings of 72 runs off 41 balls. India had got 2 setbacks early, Virat and KL Rahul could not do anything special. After this Rohit played an innings of 72 runs with the help of 5 fours and 4 sixes. His strike rate was 175.60.

Apart from Rohit, Suryakumar Yadav scored 34 runs in 29 balls. There was a partnership of 97 runs in 58 balls between the two.

Hardik Pandya and Deepak Hooda were flops in the match. Hardik 13 and Hooda could only make 3 runs.

Rishabh Pant, who was dismissed after playing a bad shot in the last match, could not do much against Sri Lanka and was dismissed for 17 runs in 13 balls.

KL Rahul was once again a flop in the Asia Cup. He faced 7 balls and could only score 6 runs. His wicket was taken by Mahesh Teeksha. On the fourth ball of the second over, Rahul wanted to go ahead and play big, but the ball went and hit his shoe. The Sri Lankan players made a strong appeal and the umpire gave him out LBW. Rahul has not scored a single half-century in the 4 matches of the Asia Cup.

At the same time, Virat Kohli, who scored a half-century against Pakistan, could not even open his account. Young fast bowler Dilshan got clean bowled on the coming ball of Madushanka. The fourth ball of the third over proved to be dangerous for Virat. Rohit was also disappointed as soon as Virat got out.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar did not get a single wicket in the bowling. He also spent 30 runs in 4 overs. When India needed his experience the most, there was no edge in his bowling.
