The Emirates (UAE) Cricket board has offered BCCI to host IPL 2020, the annual cricket carnival. According to a report published in the Hindustan Times, the BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal admitted that UAE officials have offered to host IPL 2020.
“The UAE has offered to host the IPL if we want them to. But right now when there is no international travel, there is no question of taking a call on that,” said BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal.
Health and safety of the players should be prioritized
Hosting the gala event abroad is not a new experience for the cricket fans and players. BCCI had hosted a full-fledged second edition of the game in South Africa in 2009, while, in 2014, UAE has hosted 20 matches to avoid clash with general elections.
The BCCI treasurer further said that the board is still hopeful towards rescheduling the event and hosting it in India.
However, on asked, if the cases would not flatten, will they consider hosting the 13th league of the premier league in foreign, he did not commit anything.
“The health and security of players and all participants is our priority. At the moment, the entire world travel has come to a standstill, so there is nothing we can decide at this stage,” he said.
Sri Lanka cricket had made a similar offer
Sri Lanka Cricket, however, was first to offer to organise the cash-rich tournament in its territory. Sri Lanka Cricket, in April, just after the announcement of deferral of the league until further notice had informed the media that they are planning to table an official proposal before the BCCI regarding the hosting rights.
However, Sri Lanka Cricket secretary Mohan de Silva recently said that the board will take any decision on the issue after May 11, when the Lock Down will be lifted from the country (Sri Lanka).
